US listings still sell 10-foot ceilings. Architects work in meters. The handshake is 0.3048 meters per international foot. Height is the same math plus a leftover in inches.

Feet, then leftover inches
meters = feet × 0.3048. A 6 ft person is 1.8288 m. A 10 ft ceiling is 3.048 m.
5 ft 10 in is not 5.10 ft. It is 5 + 10/12 = 5.8333 ft → 1.778 m. Writing 5.10 into the box is how you get a wrong passport height.
Rooms vs people
Ceiling height in a listing is often rounded. Convert the number they printed, then walk the room if the finish height matters for a tall wardrobe.
